Guitar Red./Coh./Per.

http://www.freeguitarvideos.com/

The site gives free video lessons for anyone learning to play guitar. I think it does well in all three of the categories, redundancy, personalization, and coherence. Please visit the site and click on one of the “Watch the Video” Quicktime links.

Personalization – You are instructed by a human being. He speaks in a friendly conversational manner. This kind of instruction mimics what it would be like if your guitar playing friend sat down and teaught you.

Redundancy – The instructional videos generally have no writing on the screen. Just a man playing a guitar. This keeps the instructional area uncluttered. The site itself is actually rather barebones.

Coherence – There is no useless material on the site or in the videos. The lessons are very straightforward and discuss nothing but learning guitar and are generally focused on the specific lesson at hand.

Great site. The instructor plays everything nice and slow with repetition so the learner is able to follow. I wish I had a guitar so I could take some of the lessons.

This website's videos are definitely impressive. I like how he explains the chords you are playing and the video focuses on the fingering (just the neck of the guitar). When you are focusing on the strum pattern, the screen is split between the two hands. There really is no extraneous info and it would be very helpful to learn to play the guitar. Thanks for sharing the site!

Not only does this site adhere to the principles of Coherence, Personalization and Redundancy, it's also an excellent example of Teaching Procedural Knowledge. The simple descriptions of the actions by an expert and the part-whole demonstrations followed by practice are extremely effective. To be able to see the music behind the video might be agreat way to also learn to read the music you're playing. This site gets high marks from me as this I could do! If it didn't reveal how ancient I am, I might tell you that back when Peter, Paul and Mary were popular, I unsuccessfully attempted guitar lessons--my instructor made it so seem complex...and you might say, Peter, Paul and Who? :D
